Hold on. Hold Tight.

Have you ever felt this way?
Like you’re drowning, but there’s no water.
Like you’re continuously paddling, but can’t reach the surface.
Like you’re striving, but see no results.
Hold on. Hold tight.

Do you know what it is like to do so much, yet accomplish so little?
To run in circles when you need to go straight ahead.
To whittle away at a mountain with all your might, only to find yourself sore and still standing at its foot?
Hold on. Hold tight.

When you’re beaten and broken.
When you’re hanging on by a prayer.
When you’re suspended, unable to move for reasons way beyond your control.
Hold on. Hold tight.

When you look but can’t see.
When you search but can’t find.
When you cry out but hear no response.
Hold on. Hold tight.

When the news is swift, and brutal and unnerving.
When the pressure squeezes every drop of air from your being.
When the crashing and thrashing of tumultuous times leave you numb.
Hold on. Hold tight.

Hold on to the promise of tomorrow.
Hold on to the strength deep within.
Hold on to the hope that better days lie ahead.
Hold on to the belief that all things work together for our good.
Hold on in faith.
Hold on in hope.
Hold on in love.

Grasp tightly with both hands and refuse to let go.

Hold on. Hold tight.

Hold on.

I had debated whether I should share this piece. And then yesterday, while speaking to someone I love who is in the throws of difficulty, I asked how she was doing. “Holding tight” was her response. In that moment, I knew that I wanted to share these words. They may not be for everyone. But they are for someone. Perhaps many someones. If these words are for you, hold on and hold tight, for joy comes in the morning.

We may not have all the answers for those around us who hurt and who are navigating difficult times. But we are not called to provide all the answers. We are called to love. And so, if you see a loved one in crisis, don’t be afraid to hold out your hand. It may be just what they need to hold on to. Allow them to hold on as tightly as they need to.

Hold on. Hold tight.

  2. These words were meant for me!
It is an absolutely beautiful post.
    Thank you!
I wish you lived closer (NY), so I could hug you! šŸ™‚

  3. So well written, I think so many people feel like this Iā€™m the current times. Thank you for sharing.

  4. At times when I find myself feeling this way I have dreams. In those dreams I am running trying to get somewhere, but no matter how much I try to run fast. I don’t get as far as all that effort should have taken me. Then there are times when I dream that I can jump very high, as high as the tall buildings with only a slight effort of pushing off the ground.

Thanks for sharing this. It is beautiful.

    1. This shows the various seasons of life. Sometimes we feel invincible and sometimes we feel utterly defeated. We keep holding on, knowing that seasons will change. So we hold tight.

  5. This was ever so beautifully worded
    Angelina. Enjoyed reading these words.
Many will surely benefit so thanks
    for sharing. Being recently retired
my life is easy going and completely
stress free but as we all know good
    circumstances can change like a
flash in the pan. So I am grateful
and will hold on to whatever crosses
    my path. Kind greetings from
    Switzerland.

  6. I remember. I remember holding on so tight, just to survive. I have felt like this in different seasons of my life, there are different triggers. I am learning to recognise some of them now, I am journaling so I can see the patterns and I’m starting to check myself before I tip over into the whirlwind of negativity and unhelpful thoughts.
I am learning that I can change my mood as often as I choose, to enable me to seek peace and joy. I am learning that my opinion of me is so important. I’m learning to look at the sky more, and be kind to myself.
Hold on tight everyone, you have the strength to do this.

    1. Samantha, this is a beautiful testament to resilience and hope. Thank you for sharing your strength!

  7. These words are good and true all the time. šŸ™‚ Even when things are going well, we need to remember to hold on and hold tight to our God who got us through those rough waters. We need to keep that tight grip on Him in all times so that we don’t lose our footing and sink into deep water. Trust your instincts (which is the spirit leading you)…these are good words for all times and all people.

  8. I once saw an acquaintance listening to a cell phone and crying. I sat by her and held her hand while she gripped mine tightly. She later thanked me saying that was just what she needed. Sometimes being there for someone else who needs to hold on tight can be a good thing.

    1. Absolutely! We can offer a world of comfort by reaching out our hand. Thank you for sharing this with me.

  9. Anyone who has had this experience knows it is very painful and we need our village, our loved ones to reach out to help us since in this state we seemed paralyzed to reach out to them.
