…And that’s ok

Sometimes we need a moment.
Sometimes we can’t do everything that we set out to do.
Sometimes we make mistakes

…and that’s ok.

Some days, we feel overwhelmed.
Some days, we feel lost.
Some days, we feel less than enough

…and that’s ok.

There are times when we feel on top of the world.
There are times when everything moves in our favour.
There are times when we experience joy and peace – and these are wonderful times.
But, there are other times when nothing seems to work
When our best just isn’t enough
When we push but still fall short

…and that’s ok.

When everything we need to do competes with meeting ourselves at our point of need
When striving for excellence becomes stress-inducing and all-consuming
When we know the road ahead is long but, right now, we just can’t take another step
We don’t need our inner voice telling us we must power through
We don’t need to compare our efforts to those around us
We don’t need to berate ourselves for falling behind.

What we need is an understanding that resting a while is not irresponsible.
What we need is an appreciation that tending to self is necessary.
What we need is an awareness that, sometimes, we need to pause, to ponder and to power off

…and that’s ok

This is not an excuse for mediocrity. It is an extending of grace where it is needed most.

This is not a shunning of responsibilities. It is a relaxing of stringent standards for a time.

This is not an acceptance of defeat. It is an understanding that falling is not failing, and that, sometimes, we must choose preservation over persistence. Compassion over completion.

Sometimes, things are not ok
…and that’s ok.

These words are so important.

I feel like more people need to hear them.
I feel like more people need to say them.
I feel like more people need to believe them.

I know I do.
